What Are Red Numbers on App Icons?
The Red Numbers that appear on App icons are known as Badges and the purpose of Red Number Badges on App Icons is to highlight or bring attention to the number of unread or unopened notifications. If Red Numbers are appearing on App Store Icon, the Number on the Red Badge indicates the number of Apps for which Updates are available on the App Store. While Badge Icons with attention grabbing Red Numbers are useful in highlighting Unread Notifications, there are some users who do not want the simple look of App Icons being marred by the appearance of Red Numbers. Hence, iPhone provides the option to remove Red Numbers from App icons. However, there is no global option on iPhone to remove Red Numbers for all Apps at once, it can only be done on an App by App basis.
